Rolling Stock Shoebeam Equipment

1973 Tube Stock Shoebeam

73 TS DM shoegear labelled.jpg (38257 bytes)

This view shows the equipment provided on the positive shoebeam of a 1973 Tube Stock motor car at Action Town, Piccadilly Line.  The shoebeam is made of laminated timber and is hung from the axleboxes (seen here as dark orange).  It is protected from dropping off by brackets looped round it at each end.

On driving cars, the shoebeam also carries the tripcock (right hand side only) and a sleet brush on both right and left hand sides of the car.

The arc barrier protects the car body from the 630 volt lead (not visible) which connects the shoe with the equipment on the car.

A small negative shoebeam is provided under the bogie on a board bolted between the headstock of the bogie and the motor case.
